Who the heck am and I why do I deserve you

It has been brought to my attention that I have been blogging on and on as a Mod housewife and beyond a simple introduction of my family structure that I haven't given you any background of where I get off discussing denim, crafts, dogs and "cancer"?

I am a long time , 23 year, housewife. Over these years I have had many jobs, in the fields of finance, corporate party planning, motor vehicle identification, public relations, substitute teaching (including autistic students), girl scout leadership, substitute teaching and working at sleep-a-way camp (11 years). I currently work in the modern/contemporary department in a major, local department store. I enjoy coordinating customers outfits, and I get a high each time a client leaves the store with a smile saying that they have the perfect ensemble for their upcoming event.

I somehow am lucky enough to have a following of friends (my clients started off as customers) that I actually look forward to seeing in the store so that I can show them the latest trends et al.

Regarding my crafty creative side, I have been dabbling in the creative arts (not an artist) for many many years and I have finally been able to express and share this side of me as the Arts and Crafts specialist at a conservative jewish camp in Milford PA. I try to use many recycled items in the crafts that I do with the campers and in return I learn from them as well.

The bottle cap necklaces shown in the blog were made at camp. Many of them were sold during the summer in order to send money to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer which I walk 39+ miles every year.

I walk along with my family. My sister Debby, niece Nicole, cousin Randie. Every year we have additional team members Karen Abramson is walking with us this year. Included in our crew is our dad Stanley Antonoff, and the fabulous Annette Kaplan, who will be part of the hospitality group.

My mom was a breast cancer survivor, but passed in 2001 from a primary tumor in her brain. I walk in honor of survivors such as my Aunt Ann, Fran Mann, Ronnie Kinnis, Lori Shilling, Kathy Schneier, Toni Viccardi, Barol Barry,Nurse Pat, Sandy Lazurs and in memory of my grandmother Becky Friedman, Eleanor Satir, Julia Schroder, Marilyn Berner, Florence Robinson and Suzanne. I also walk for many others. Each year this list of women is listed on my back .

If there is anyone else you want me to walk in honor or memory of please just comment on the blog and I will add their name.

So this is just the tip of the ice berg of who I am. Currently I am about to complete my teaching certification in K-6 and will be student teaching shortly.

There are many levels of the Mod housewife-heididdle, and I am just beginning to peel through the layers.

I hope this blog will be fun as well as informative. It will be on fashion, design, styling and about life and how we have to all get through it. And damn it, I hope to make it fun and fulfilling at the same time.

If there is a fashion or fun topic you want me to include, please make a comment

And finally be sure to include yourself in the denim poll at the bottom of the blog

Have a darn good denim day

  1. wow! well done Heidi! now that puts you in context.
    I have a topic.
I have not shrunk or lost weight. But I have noticed that sizes have dropped on size in everything from shoes at Macy's (from a 7 1/2 to a 7) to pants at Chicos. When I first started buying at Chico's in the 90's I think I was a 1. Now the 00 jeans are too sloppy in the waist. In some stores I was a 4 or 6 but in all stores I can comfortable bargain on the 4 being good or too big. Has anyone else noticed this vanity sizing thing? I do not want to shop in Juniors stores. I want to be a sophisticated 50 years old not a teen wanna be. My 16 year old daughter does a great job as the teen in the house.

  2. It is a proven fact that we can look hot at 50 and not wear our daughter's jeans. Even if we stay the same weight throughout the years our bodies and our " desired fashion looks change. I mean I am no longer interested in having my hip bones stick out under my shirts and I don't want my private bottom half to show either. This is part of my purpose in highlighting different brands. If you are not a fan of low waisted jeans try Buffalo, Hudson, DKNY, 7 for mankind high waist, lucky sweet and low and finally not your daughters jeans. These brands offer a great compromise with a great look without having to "give it " away.

  3. Laura sent you a message.

Subject: Tried to send a message to the blog, but it wouldn't go through.
    aargh!

"Heidi, I love the BLOG and all that you are putting in it. Jeans...as you
will recall, are not something I ever embraced, but I do love great slacks. I
have Sigrid Olsen slacks (black, grey and khaki/tan) that I purchased a couple
years ago. They are too wonderful, but the black ones are starting to show
wear. They are side zip, a touch of lycra, straight legs with the v-snip at the
outside ankle (I am sure you have a more technical term)..I am currently in
Omaha and bemoan the lack to clothing that doesn't look like it was made for
teens. My daughters are almost 27 and 25 and are no longer an influence in the
household. Any suggestions? Laurie (Rozycki) Switzer from AGD@DU."

  4. Michael Kors and Kenneth Cole both make fabulous slacks and don't break the bank. Also if you were so daring the guess faux jeans are great because the are similar to leggins but make all sizes look great and they look wonderful with a blazer and long white button down shirt

PPs your Mom's pot Roast is my Mom's pot roast making me guess that it was really your Great Grandma's pot roast. Your Grand ma (my aunt Becky) only "cooked" Sardine sandwiches...

  6. I wish I could help you with the Sigrid Olsen pants. Maybe ebay or if you google them you might find small internet boutiques that might have them. Yes of course I know and remember Sasha's store. I never have had a chance to get there however. Finally, that is so funny about the pot roast I was so sure that it was from Dad's side of the family I will ask him today. Your right my mother's grandmother did all the cooking which is why Butch was so fat as a young girl LOL
